The Company was founded in 2002 to develop and commercialize the invention of the Smart Eye Band equipped with polymeric artificial muscles, a revolutionary concept in the treatment of vision impairment. Ophthalmotronics is developing a family of Smart Eye Bands based on its patented technology, and the company's goal is to establish its Smart Eye Band as the standard of care worldwide for management of mild to severe vision impairment such as presbyopia, hyperopia, myopia and astigmatism. Depending on the suitability of such scleral band implant applications, either passive bands are used with appropriate locking buckle to allow the ophthalmologist micro-surgeon to create enough tension in the band or inflatable tubing that allow tension control by injection of bio-compatible fluids such as a gas or a saline solution.
